Ode To Joy

Dionysius Greek God of Wine (Roman God Bachus )in revelry.  God of the grape-harvest and winemaking. Also the god of fertility, orchards and fruit, vegetation, insanity, ritual madnes, religious ecstasy, festivity and threatre in ancient Greek religion and myth. A Renaissance theme of heavenly abundance with the wild god Dionysius pouring the wine and the angel on high sounding the cornucopia , the horn of plenty. This painting was inspired on my visit to the Uffizi Gallery, Florence to see the Renaissance masterpieces I had read about. In my painting the rich colours created by the many glazes add to the textural quality which also throws light in many directions for movement and airiness of the mythological magic of the theme.
