Australian native Banksia painting, Western Australia

Size: 400x500mm

Medium: Oil On Canvas

This serene painting is very understated with simple washes of oil and use of the underpainting is my way of describing the ancient source from which it spring.

The banksia origins go back to Gondwana land  300 million years ago, when Australia was linked by a land bridge to Africa .  The Banksia comes in many different forms but as a whole they all contain the fundamental structure of harsh leathery leaves of grey green and strong wiry conical shaped flowers which, as they die provide a wonderful record of the stages of the drying  and aging process.
